Privacy policy

Last updated: September 7, 2026

This policy covers gifs.so. For questions about your information or to request access, correction, or deletion, contact [email protected].

Account information

We process your name, email address, profile information, and authentication records to create your account, sign you in, and protect access to the service. Email accounts also use a hashed password and email verification and recovery messages. Session cookies keep you signed in.

Sign in with Google

If you choose Google sign-in, Google provides your account identifier, email address, email verification status, name, and profile picture. We use this information for account creation, authentication, and your profile. This sign-in requests only basic identity permissions: openid, email, and profile. It does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, or your contacts. You can revoke access through your Google Account settings; revoking access does not itself delete your gifs.so account.

Service activity and providers

We process searches, saved preferences, API usage, and technical information such as IP addresses and browser information to operate the service, measure usage, diagnose errors, and prevent abuse. The service uses PostHog for analytics, Resend for account emails, Cloudflare for media delivery, and hosting and database providers. Sponsorship payments are handled by Polar. These providers process information needed for their respective functions.

Analytics records searches and GIF views, bookmarks, copies, downloads, and context-menu interactions to improve search and category ordering. Signed-in activity may be associated with your account ID; other activity uses a browser identifier. Search history is private and is not shown to other visitors or sponsors. Aggregate GIF popularity contains no user IDs.

Retention and your choices

Individual search events expire after 30 days and are removed during routine analytics storage cleanup. You can disable optional analytics in your account settings. Anonymous aggregate popularity may be retained longer; account bookmarks remain until you remove them or your account.

Account information is retained while needed to provide your account. Security, transaction, and backup records may be retained where needed for security, recovery, or legal obligations. Contact [email protected] to request deletion or a copy of your information. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, data portability, and to complain to your data protection authority.

We use account information to provide the service you request, technical information to operate and secure it, and transaction records to meet legal obligations. Providers may process data in other countries, subject to applicable data protection requirements. Changes to this policy will be published on this page with an updated date.
